What to do if you haven’t filed your tax return:

Are you in need of more time to file your federal tax return? Here is what you need to know

Please be aware that:
  • An extension of time to file your return does not grant you any extension of time to pay your taxes.
  • You should estimate and pay any owed taxes by your regular deadline to help avoid possible penalties.
  • You must file your extension request no later than the regular due date of your return.
Get an extension when you make a payment
  • You can also get an extension by paying all or part of your estimated tax due and indicate that the payment is for an extension. At AOTAX we guide you according to your requirement.

E filing your extension form

If you need an extension of time to file your individual income tax return, you must file Form 4868, Application for Automatic Extension of Time to file Individual Income Tax Return.. At AOTAX, our experts will help you with the formalities needed to ensure that the extension is filed correctly.

More Time to File, Not More Time to Pay (Usually)

It is important to remember that the Form 4868 extension gives you more time to file your tax return, not more time to pay estimated due taxes.

You will still have to pay your taxes by that year's original due date, even if the IRS grants an extension to file tax return later.

You can pay some or all of your estimated taxes online using a debit or credit card, or through an electronic funds transfer using Direct Pay. It is also possible to mail a check or money order to make your tax payment, even if you file electronically. Make the check or money order payable to the United States Treasury and include a completed Form 4868 as a voucher.
